HiI placed an order for an mat and some accessories yesterday, and I hope that I can get a related Q answered as well: Would an electric air duster, which blows a strong flow of air, like the Metrovac Electric duster (http://www.metrovacworld.com/DataVac%20Electric%20Duster), cause damage to ESD by static electricity in the air generated? Metrovac advertises the duster for cleaning computer parts and electronics. I used it yesterday and I am now very concerned that I may have inadvertently damaged my logic board. The duster uses a 2 prong plug, and is not grounded. The air that it generates is very strong, and is slightly hot. Thanks.

There may be a problem if the air is not clean. Clean air will not tribocharge.

Per ESD Handbook ESD TR20.20 section 2.5 Material Electrical Characteristics “Electrostatic charge may be liberated triboelectrically by the contact and separation of materials. Virtually all materials, including water and dirt particles in the air, can be triboelectrically charged.”
